Cities, towns, and villages across India are grappling with one of the most pressing issues of this century – how to manage the daily waste we produce. UWH promotes a change in the community's thought process about waste – thinking of waste as a resource rather than a problem.
Recyclable materials contained in dry waste are valuable and can promote a circular economy and sustainable living. Biodegradable materials, if diverted from landfills, can serve as a truly renewable energy source. It can also be converted into rich organic manure that can help improve soil carbon levels and agricultural productivity.
Effective Waste Resource Management (WRM) requires technological solutions as well as strong commitment from all the people involved - waste generators, collectors, processors, and customers of waste-derived products.
Our WRM program includes two major components: community outreach and technological solutions. Utilizing these two components, we work with municipal corporations and wholesale agricultural markets for sustainable and decentralized strategies that turn the problem of waste resource management into an opportunity.
